CIT UPC, consolidation and progress

The year 2014 was one in which the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) consolidated a project launched in 2010 whose aim was, and still is, to make scientific and technological knowledge generated at the university available for innovation in companies. As part of the project, the CIT UPC Technology Center was founded to channel the University’s technological potential. CIT UPC presents the University’s technological capabilities proactively, and provides comprehensive solutions for the technological problems of companies and other organizations in the public and private sector.

We have set new goals for 2015-2017, to continue to collaborate with the production sector through innovation, and thus help to increase the competitiveness of businesses. Drawing from its extensive experience of collaborating with companies, CIT UPC and the centers and researchers that it brings together work on solutions that help to provide innovative responses to challenges arising in a changing environment, in which opportunities to advance are frequently linked to technology.

Accordingly, CIT UPC aims to contribute to an environment in which technology leadership is a resource for the future. This leadership, together with our capacity to provide solutions for companies in complex economic situations, have made the UPC one of the top universities in southern Europe in terms of technology transfer. In this context, CIT UPC, as the University’s Technology Center, is a catalyst in the university-business relationship, and a facilitator of collaborative work that leads to continuous mutual benefits in the long-term.

We believe in the potential of technology and innovation to enhance the progress of the production sector, and in the role that a university like the UPC can play through the experience and knowledge of its 20 CIT UPC Member Centers. Some of these Centers have been working in research and development for over 40 years.

We are endorsed by over 900 companies and organizations with which we have collaborated. They are very diverse organizations: from small and medium-sized companies to multinationals. All of them see technology as a driving force that will help them to get stronger and grow.

The third mission of the university is to contribute to the transformation of the surrounding environment, and the production sector in particular, through innovation. This challenge, along with teaching and research, shape the goals of the university as a public service. As a university that is capable of promoting, and committed to, the country’s progress, the UPC accepts this challenge with confidence that it can meet it successfully.
